Automatic Page Placement

Enhancements: Auto Page-Placement Rules
At A Glance

Enhancements to the auto page placement rules allow for page labels to be detected and used for page placement. Apogee Prepress also has the ability to place readers spreads with offsets by using the “RLPAGE” variable with file names.

How It Works

When auto page placement is selected in the runlist, it can be directed to use page labels.

Automatically by file name

Automatically by page label

Page labels are automatically included in many PS and PDF files. No re-naming of files is necessary to achieve auto page placement in Apogee if page labels are present.

Quark and In-Design add page labels to files printed. If a PDF is exported from In-Design CS2 or CS3 it may not have correct page labels. Exported PDFs from In-Design CS4 have correct page-label data.

Page labels may be added to a document in Adobe Acrobat Pro from Advanced>Document Processing>Number Pages.

Page placement by file name is enhanced. Two variables may be used. This allows a readers spread page to be placed and correctly positioned by Prepress. Readers spread pages are correctly offset from the page trim box when imposition is used and the template pages are the half the width of the placed spreads.

Page Placement Rules

Only documents with odd/even page sequences are supported. Only jobs with defined imposition can auto-offset readers spreads. Only two commands are supported. Each two-page spread must be saved as a separate document.

Why is this Important?

Page labels are automatically included in many files. Renaming individual files is not necessary for auto page placement. Automatic placement and offset of spreads saves re-designing customer-supplied files or calculating offset values in supplied PDF spreads.
